Skills/Compétences Canada (S/CC) is a national, not-for-profit organization that strives to promote careers in skilled trade and technology to Canadian youth. It works with employers in private and public sectors as well as educators, labour groups and governments to secure Canada’s future skilled labour needs.
Every year S/CC organizes the Canadian Skills Competition, an Olympic-style competition attracting approximately 500 young students and apprentices across the country to compete in over 40 trade and technology areas. Entering its 15th year, this competition serves as a venue for youth to be tested on trade standards and against their peers in order to be crowned the best in their own discipline.
The path to the national competition is as follows: First, participants compete in their respective regions. Then, regional medalists move on to compete at BC Skills Competition, the provincial qualifier organized by Skills Canada BC, of which medalists will represent British Columbia in their own trades at the Canadian Skills Competition.
Past participants and medal winners from BC have shared their thoughts:
2008 Canadian Skills Competition
2011 Canadian Skills Competition
