Industry Development organizations in BC recognize that the tourism industry is mostly made up of small businesses. Almost 50% of tourism businesses in BC have less than 4 employees. The approach then is to provide the industry with access to subject matter experts, educational skills, and resources at a much lesser cost than if individuals had to access them on their own.
Industry Development
These industry development organizations provide assistance, funding, guidance and support that will benefit the industry either by developing individual businesses, business sectors or communities. They also help to facilitate growth and expansion of tourism facilities and attractions.

Product Development
Product Development is much like Industry Development - it supports the growth and success of the tourism industry. But Product Development is specific to the development of new and expanded tourism activities. It deals mostly with tourism products and sectors.
The Canadian Tourism Commission has created a Partnership Program for Product Innovation and Enhancement. With a committee of industry professionals that meet periodically, a series of publications to support industry with current information and research, and Product Clubs - small and medium businesses who meet across the country - it is a great resource for the development of innovative tourism products.
