FAQ – Working at the Olympics

Are there a lot of opportunities available during the 2010 Winter Games?

In order to welcome tens of thousands of visitors to the Winter Games, 55,000 temporary paid and volunteer positions will be created. These positions will play a key role in helping BC to create a memorable guest experience for the visitors.

What kind of opportunities will be available?

Opportunities will be available across BC, mainly in venue cities Vancouver, Whistler and Richmond, as well as their surrounding communities. These positions are with tourism employers, and suppliers and contractors for the Games in the areas of accommodation, food and beverage services, parking, game security, transportation and more.

What is the duration of these opportunities?

These temporary positions range from three weeks to three months in length, and they may commence any time between now and when the event takes place in February 2010.

How do I find these opportunities?

The go2 Job Board houses a number of temporary opportunities available with tourism employers as well as contractors and suppliers for the 2010 Winter Games. Job seekers are also encouraged to upload their resume to go2’s Resume Database, where employers will go to search for qualified candidates when their job openings become available. In order to be considered for these temporary jobs, you have to be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant, or hold a valid work permit to work in Canada. Please make sure you answer all questions in the form. Information you provide on the questionnaire will help employers determine your eligibility for their job openings. You may also check out our list of Other Job Boards for 2010 job postings.

Is accommodation provided?

Some employers may provide accommodation to their temporary staff, but in some cases employees are responsible for making their own arrangements. Please check with your employer to confirm the accommodation arrangement.

Is transportation provided?

Some employers may provide transportation between job location and where you stay; but in some cases employees are responsible for making their own arrangement. During Games time, venue cities will implement a special transportation plan. Visit the TravelSmart2010 website for more information on the Integrated Transportation Plan. Please also check with your employer to find out about their own transportation plan.

I live in another province, will employers accept my application?

Yes! Individuals from other provinces are welcome to apply for these opportunities. However, you will have to arrange your own transportation to and from Vancouver. You will also have to check with your employer about accommodation and transportation arrangement once you arrive in Vancouver.
