Thank you for visiting go2 at the Destination Canada recruitment fairs

This section of our website has been created as a resource for you to learn about working in BC’s thriving tourism industry.

British Columbia is currently experiencing labour shortages due the combination of low fertility rates, the retirement of "baby boomers" and a booming economy. As such, BC’s tourism industry, along with many other sectors, is having problems finding enough employees.

The following tourism occupations have been classified by the government as "Occupations under Pressure" meaning there are not a sufficient number of Canadians available to fill these jobs and are therefore being actively recruited for outside of Canada:

  • Restaurant and food service managers
  • Accommodation service managers
  • Program leaders and instructors in recreation and sport (such as ski, snowboard and golf instructors)
  • Food service supervisors
  • Retail salespersons and sales clerks
  • Hotel front desk clerks
  • Tour and travel guides
  • Outdoor sport and recreational guides (such as whitewater rafting guides)
  • Maîtres d’hôtel and hosts/hostesses
  • Food and beverage servers
  • Food service counter attendants and food preparers
  • Light duty cleaners
  • Other attendants in accommodation and travel (except airline travel)

If you have these skills, there are employers in BC’s tourism industry that would be interested in talking to you!
