Golf Course Assistant Superintendent

A golf course assistant superintendent assists the golf course superintendent in maintaining the aesthetics of the golf course. They are also responsible for staff scheduling and training, overseeing fertility and pesticide programs, ensuring proper operation of the irrigation system as well as participating in all ongoing projects on the golf course.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and supervise the maintenance of the golf course
  • Organize and delegate work schedules as well as project work
  • Supervise, manage and train turf maintenance staff
  • Report to the superintendent on all department activities
  • Develop and implement employee safety policy
  • Assist with cultural practices and proper operations of the irrigation system
  • Respond to internal and external customer inquiries
  • Perform other duties as required by the superintendent

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • A degree or diploma in turf management
  • A minimum of five years of golf course maintenance experience
  • A minimum of three years of supervisory and/or foreman experience 
  • Knowledge of irrigation operation and water management
  • Knowledge of golf course equipment, maintenance and repairs
  • Experience and knowledge of golf course operation 
  • Excellent leadership skills and trouble shooting skills
  • Experience in supervising, directing, scheduling staff
  • Knowledge of computer programs
  • Knowledge of fertility and application methods
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of the game of golf
  • Pesticide Applicator certification
  • Valid driver’s license
