Golf Course Grounds Manager

Reporting to the superintendent or assistant superintendent, a golf course grounds manager is responsible for planning and coordinating the preservation, maintenance and upgrading of all landscape sites on the golf course.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates landscape design projects, grounds maintenance, irrigation systems and grounds equipment
  • Supervises full time grounds maintenance staff and all grounds related contract support services
  • Plans work assignments, assesses training needs and orders supplies and materials. 
  • Assists and supports Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent in the planning, development and administration of the master plan for landscaping of the golf course
  • Conducts administrative work as required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • A degree in horticulture, grounds or landscaping or a diploma combined with operational experience
  • A minimum of five years of management and supervisory experience in the horticultural, grounds, or other related fields
  • Working knowledge in landscape design and maintenance, horticulture and turf grass operations
  • Knowledge of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and Operational Health and Safety (OHS) practices
  • Be goal-oriented
  • Knowledge on horticulture care of all plant material (e.g. shrubs, flowers, trees, turf)
  • Knowledge of and ability to use of computerized maintenance management systems and other computerized systems and tools
  • Financial and human resource management skills
  • Experience and knowledge of golf course operation 
  • Project and construction management skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Pesticide Applicator certification
