Grouse's Human Resources Manager Charmaine Carswell hired a West Vancouver secondary school student after realizing Darryl Brown's keen interest in the company and the tourism industry during a TCAP presentation. This is what Darryl's supervisor has to say about her now:
"Darryl was one of our best part time lift operators last winter and she's been great this summer as well. She's been extremely versatile so far; starting out as Santa's helper over Christmas break and then switching to sleigh hostess and winter lift ops."
- Dave Funston, Outside Operations Duty Manager, Grouse Mountain
"I have had the opportunity to present the benefits of working in the tourism industry to many high school students, and have had great success in meeting keen individuals that we would consider for future positions. I would strongly encourage other tourism professionals to take advantage of the TCAP program as recruiting will only become more of a challenge in the future. The TCAP provides a great opportunity to plant the tourism seed!"
- John Clisby, GM, Best Western Carlton Plaza Hotel
"This was my first time presenting the material, and I was very impressed with the thorough research of the statistics and the way in which it was visually organized for the class. While I was presenting the material, I found myself rekindling the excitement and passion I felt for my industry way back when I had begun pursuing this career. It was a refreshing feeling that I hadn't experience in a while and it was a great reminder of why I chose this field in the first place."
- Brent Markham, Training Coordinator, Sandman Hotels Inns & Suites
"I think a lot of students prior to the presentation had the wrong perception of the industry by not realizing it is a bona fide career choice. As I have been successful in establishing my own career within this industry, I believe I am able to communicate that the industry provides hundreds of career choices and that you can actually make good money, too!"
- Jeff Hope, Regional Controller - BC, Delta Vancouver Airport Hotel
"Our industry needs a boost to educate people about the ins and outs of what we do, and [TCAP] is a pro-active approach to supply the industry with the much needed professionals in the future ."
- Ron Star, Director of Food & Beverage and Special Events, Eaglequest Golf Centre
"I feel that the program is a great way to spread the word of what a great career and lifestyle choice hospitality is for young people, and to help open their eyes to the options available for them."
- Treva Gardner, Human Resources Manager, Sandman Hotel Group
