How to Recruit Online: A Quick Start Guide

Share |

You don't need to be a technological whiz or an Internet guru to start taking advantage of online opportunities to recruit the employees your business needs.

Thanks to Recruiting 2.0, by MindField Group, one of Canada's leading outsourced recruitment service organizations, the following "quick start" tips (reprinted with permission) can help you get going today. Don’t worry, once you put these practices to work, you’ll find them easy.

How to Recruit on Facebook

  • Create a Facebook page to promote opportunities at your company
  • Identify the top five to 10 positions for which you want to build a candidate pool. Start using Facebook Ads (for as little as $5 per day) to target recruiting ads to individuals who include these job titles in their user profiles.
  • Promote your Facebook page by adding a "Find us on Facebook" button to your website. Download the Facebook icon and read its promotion guidelines.
  • Additionally, you may want to post your openings on Facebook's Marketplace.

Other Recruiting 2.0 Tips

  • Use Twitter to promote your company as an employer of choice. Post recent company news, industry trends and recent job postings.
  • Combine Twitter and Facebook, cross-reference your various social networking accounts, to make the most of your efforts.
  • Start using LinkedIn to find candidates. Create a group for your company, then seek out candidates through LinkedIn’s various hospitality groups.
  • Post your job vacancies on Craigslist.org. This will automatically improve search ranking on Google and Yahoo.
  • Include relevant keywords in job descriptions and postings to optimize search rankings; this is referred to as search engine optimization (SEO). For instance, for a front desk agent, include words such as BC hospitality jobs, hotel jobs or customer service positions.
  • Sign up for a free JobThread account, which will push your jobs deeper into cyberspace.
  • Submit job postings, career website pages and URLs to Indeed, SimplyHired, Eluta and JobVolume. These one-stop employment search engines will increase overall search ranking and expand the distribution of your job postings.
  • Review and update your company’s applicant tracking system; if you don’t have one, consider getting one.
  • Incorporate a sharing widget on your recruiting campaigns and job postings, which will enable others to spread your content across the Web. Find the widget at AddThis.
