Chinese Cultural Guide for Employers

Share |

BC's new immigrants have a lot to offer the tourism industry. Cultural diversity can make the workplace more effective, interesting and dynamic but it can also be difficult to achieve.

The York, South Simcoe Training and Adjustment Board in Ontario has prepared a Chinese Cultural Guide for Employers that is designed to provide information and guidance on cultural influences, practical guidelines, tips and techniques to help the employer and the newcomer in the Canadian workplace.

The guide is prepared as a generalization and outline of cultural differences and to create awareness only. More detailed information should always be obtained to completely understand an issue or belief. The intention of this guide is not to offend any person or group, but rather to provide general information that may be useful to employers and employees in understanding cultural differences as they relate to the work environment.

Applying some of the suggestions in the guide will assist you as an employer to recruit and orient immigrant workers, enhance workplace communication and it may also result in an increased ability to attract and retain valuable employees.
