As the current labour crunch continues to negatively affect business operations and – ultimately – the bottom line, many employers are seeking alternatives to address their HR challenges. Enter the 5-Step Solution, an innovative program sponsored by S.U.C.C.E.S.S. – an immigrant and employer-serving agency that operates throughout BC.
The 5-Step Program was created to raise employers’ awareness of the level of experience and skills that immigrants bring into Canada, and the positive impact they can make to the workforce.
While some BC employers are turning to international sources in their recruitment efforts, the 5-Step Solution tackles the growing labour shortage by connecting employers with high and low skilled immigrants who are already in BC – and ready to work.
In fact, HR experts note that the primary source of future labour market growth will come entirely from immigration.
However, this ready pool of talent is often overlooked in many standard recruitment efforts. Skilled immigrants in BC typically spend three to five years (and sometimes longer) seeking a job that fits their experience and training.
The 5-Step Solution aims to bridge the gap between employer needs and immigrant job seekers in order to address the current – and anticipated – labour shortages.
“As an employer-driven system, we’ve based the program on employers’ feedback and needs for recruitment and retention,” explains Craig Woods, Program Manager for S.U.C.C.E.S.S. “This program is web-based, and a very simple and user-friendly guide that helps employers understand the process of hiring immigrants.”
As a web portal, this step-by-step program helps employers access much-needed resources and tools in preparing for, recruiting and integrating immigrants into their business operations.
What are the 5-step solutions?
1. Assess your workplace culture and prepare for success.
2. Evaluate your business needs and available immigrant talent.
3. Find the right people for the job.
4. Adapt and improve your hiring process.
5. Develop and retain your new employees.
“We understand the diverse HR needs of the tourism and hospitality sector,” adds Woods. “Particularly, the industry’s need for to fill a variety of skilled and low skilled positions, and we can help.”
To assist employers in recruiting from the low and high skilled immigrant labour pool, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. will be offering free presentations and workshops to interested industry/trade groups and businesses until early August.
As well, collateral materials – including flyers and giveaways – are available to employers and industry/trade groups to help access, use and promote this labour resource. To help raise further awareness of this program, the Knowledge Network is also airing vignettes on the 5-Step Solution.
Though 5-Step workshops and presentations will be held only until August 3rd, please contact Craig Woods for individual consultations and/or other possibilities beyond this date.
