Student Direct: Linking Students with BC Hotel Association Members and Work Experience

Share |

BC’s tourism and hospitality students will now have access to more work experience opportunities than ever before.

November 2, 2010 - The BC Hotel Association (BCHA) and LinkBC recently launched a pilot program called Student Direct. They also shared the 2010/11 edition of a guide to Hiring BC’s BEST, an industry resource available to each of the BCHA’s 580 members.

“Student Direct is a way for members to post work experience positions, through LinkBC, direct to the next generation of hotel leaders,” explained James Chase, CEO of the BCHA. “With Student Direct, our members simply fill out the details of their position and the information is quickly posted to www.linkbc.ca and shared through LinkBC’s many communications networks. Students are then responsible for contacting the member properties directly.”

These members, from Vancouver to Prince George, represent BC’s $10.2 billion hotel industry. While many hoteliers across the province are already engaged with their local tourism, hospitality, culinary, and adventure programs, others are still unsure how to tap into this talent pool. Student Direct aims to make the process as simple as possible for all parties.

Starting in October, hotels with co-op, intern, practicum, and other similar placements will begin using the program.

Students and instructors can access an archive of work experience postings by visiting  http://linkbc.ca/main/?en&StudentDirect.

With the introduction of Student Direct, and the continued circulation of the Hire BC’s BEST guide, LinkBC is working with industry to ensure students have a clear link to industry well before they graduate. The BCHA is one of LinkBC’s many valued industry association partners who have seen the benefit of working with the organization to bring value to their members.
