Two Changes to Temporary Foreign Worker Program Effective April 1, 2011

Share |

Two new regulations for the Temporary Foreign Worker Program come into place as of April 1, 2011. The first limits temporary foreign workers (TFW) to a maximum of four total accumulated years working in Canada (under multiple permits). Once a TFW has worked an accumulated four years in Canada, he/she will be unable to work in Canada for a period of four years. This is in effect as of April 1, 2011 - work time accumulated prior to April 1, 2011 will not be counted.

The second regulation change enables Service Canada to ban any employers who have been found to be in breach of their employment contract with the TFW from the Temporary Foreign Worker Program for up to two years. These employers will be listed on the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website.

For more information on these two changes, please refer to this Citizenship and Immigration Canada release on the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.
