An External Credential is a document recognizing the successful completion of a course/program that has been reviewed and approved for credit towards secondary school graduation. It is issued by an organization external to the BC school system and comes in the form of a letter or certificate.
For students working in the tourism industry, completing emerit certification counts as four credits towards graduation. In fact the extensive work experience component in certification may enable senior secondary students to earn additional credits in Career Preparation Work Experience 12 or meet the work experience requirements of Career and Personal Planning 11/12.
The occupations recognized for External Credentials are:
- Banquet Server
- Food & Beverage Server
- Front Desk Agent
- Guest Services Attendant
- Housekeeping/Room Attendant
- Reservations Sales Agent
- Tour Guide
- Tourism/Visitor Information Counsellor
go2 administers the certification process in BC. Connecting to emerit will give you more detailed information on the steps involved and occupations open for certification will provide you with the requirements for each of the occupations listed above.
