National Occupational Standards are manuals that describe the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to be considered competent in an occupation. These standards are specifically applicable to the tourism sector, because they were developed by tourism professionals in collaboration with leading tourism organizations in the country.
emerit National Occupational Standards form the basis for emerit Professional Certification, which is available for 27 tourism occupations in BC.
How the occupational standards are used:
- Employees use standards as a study and performance manual for professional certification;
- Employers use standards to develop job descriptions, train employees, evaluate performance and help employees achieve a professional level of competency;
- Educators and trainers use standards to design training and educational programs.
National Occupational Standards are available for more than 48 tourism professions and can be downloaded for free. Download the standards by clicking here.
