Certificate of Recognition: The Role of COR Auditors

IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Effective June 30th, 2013, WorkSafeBC has instituted a temporary freeze on any new Return to Work (RTW) COR certifications. Employers who are currently actively engaged in the program and are interested in obtaining the RTW certification have until June 30th, 2013 to complete their audit. They must submit the Notice of Audit Activities form to go2 by February 22, 2013, indicating their commitment to obtaining their certification. For more information, please contact Michael Guzmicky, COR Program Manager by email or telephone at 604-633-9787 ext. 220.

COR Auditors represent a necessary component of your company's certificate of recognition process. While trained and certified by go2, external auditors are independent consultants selected by the companies requesting their services.

External COR Auditors

The company seeking certification will pay for a go2-certified external auditor to perform an external audit. For a complete list of go2’s certified external auditors see: Find an External COR Auditor.

While trained and certified by go2, external auditors are independent consultants selected and paid for by the companies requesting their services. Review the profiles of go2's certified external auditors, then request quotes and references before making a decision. The Auditor Code of Ethics in our Policy and Procedures manual prohibits a safety consultant who helps develop a company’s safety program from acting as its external auditor.

go2’s External Auditors must complete a 5-day training program. Each external auditor is required to complete a student audit following the classroom training to become certified.

COR External Auditor Training Prerequisites:

  • Minimum three years of experience managing and/or auditing management systems
  • OH&S experience and/or training; CRSP or CHSC designation an asset
  • Hospitality/tourism experience preferred
  • Equivalent combinations of experience, training, and formal education
  • Professional references from previously audited clients

For consultants who are interested in becoming go2's certified external auditors, visit External Auditor Training for Tourism & Hospitality Workplaces.

Internal COR Auditors

If you want your company to perform your own internal maintenance audits, a company representative will need to complete go2's Internal Auditor Training program. If you choose to have an external auditor perform the maintenance audits, you will not require an internal auditor.

It is recommended that your company’s health and safety representative attend the training. This individual should be familiar with all aspects of your safety management system. But please note that the certification belongs to the individual who completed the training. If your first internal auditor leaves your company — and you wish to continue to perform the maintenance audits internally — you must send another representative to attend the training.

This course will be offered infrequently based on industry needs. Please click here for upcoming training sessions. For more information, please contact Michael Guzmicky by email or telephone at  604-633-9787 ext. 220.
