Quick Facts about BC’s Tourism Industry

  1. British Columbia's tourism revenues reached $17.0 billion in 2016.
  2. There are approximately 291,000 jobs in the BC tourism industry with 131,000 jobs  supported by visitor spending.
  3. British Columbia’s tourism industry is projected to create 111,350 new job openings in 2017-27 in a wide range of professions.
  4. British Columbia hosted 5.7 million overnight international visitors in 2017.
  5. The United States was British Columbia’s number one source of international visitors in 2017, bringing in 3.7 million visitors.
  6. In 2016, tourism was the third largest earner of export income in the provincial economy.
  7. Tourism accounted for over $7.9 billion of British Columbia's total GDP in 2016.
  8. In 2016, there were more than 19,000 tourism-related business establishments operating in British Columbia.
  9. Accommodation room revenue in 2017 was more than $2.2 billion.
  10. As well as generating revenue for British Columbian businesses and creating employment, the tourism industry contributed approximately $1.1 billion in provincial tax revenue to the provincial treasury in 2016.
