Whole Foods Market

About Us

The original Whole Foods Market opened in Texas in 1980 with a staff of only 19 people.  At the time, there were less than half a dozen natural food supermarkets in the United States.  Today the company is comprised of more than 360 stores in the United States as well as Canada and the United Kingdom.  Through our growth, we have had a large and positive impact on the natural and organic foods movement throughout the United States, helping lead the industry to nationwide acceptance.  Whole Foods Market became a publicly traded company in 1992, and has grown dramatically since that time.  The Company joined the NASDAQ-100 index in 2002, and joined the ranks of the Fortune 500 in 2005, debuting at number 479. Whole Foods Market, Inc. currently employs approximately 80,000 people and had gross annual sales of approximately $12 billion for Fiscal Year 2013.

Capers Community Markets opened its first store in West Vancouver in 1985.  In the Fall of 2007, there was a merger between Whole Foods Market and Capers Community Markets (Wild Oats Markets).  At this time Whole Foods Market grew from one store to four in the BC market.  The Canadian stores are a wholly-owned (100%) subsidiary of Whole Foods Market in the United States headquartered in Austin, Texas.
