Businesses on Vancouver Island are struggling to find available qualified employees and economic forecasts suggest that this trend will continue into the future. The Vancouver Island University Centre for Experiential Learning, in collaboration with the Vancouver Island Economic Alliance, the Greater Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce and the Mid-Island Business Initiative, are hosting a series of sector specific Roundtable focus groups to find out what you need as employers to help address these labour gaps.
Many VIU Co-op and graduate intern students are in demand for work placements in the Lower Mainland and other cities, which means island businesses could be missing the opportunity for seasonal and project help which could lead to permanent help for your business. Recent VIU research shows that fifty percent of VIU students leave the island after graduation. These graduates could be your future employees.
