Education & Training

Many organizations offer occupational health and safety (OHS) education, training, resources and certifications, including go2HR. When choosing a training provider, remember to review their insurance, professional credentials, and their OHS and general training knowledge and experience.

go2HR provides a variety of resources, services and training to support your organization in building, improving and maintaining an effective safety management system. Training offered by go2HR is ideal for individuals responsible for leading OHS and/or the Certificate of Recognition (COR) Program for their organization as well members of a company’s Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committee (JOHSC). The training is eligible for fulfilling the annual OHS training entitlement of a JOHSC member, as well as professional development re-certification credits as a Certified Internal Auditor and other OHS/HR professional certifications (e.g. CRSP, CHRP, CHSC).

OHS Program Fundamentals

Designed by go2HR, this free online course has been designed for employers in BC’s tourism, hospitality and food service industry. In an interactive setting, you will learn the fundamental principles of OHS in BC and gain an understanding of the elements of building and maintaining an OHS Program for your workplace. Upon completion of the course, you will earn your OHS Program Fundamentals Certificate of Completion.

OHS Program Gap Analysis

This provides COR program registrants with an option to schedule a complimentary, one-day gap analysis consultation. The on-site session is conducted by an OHS specialist who has experience in the tourism and hospitality industry and an in-depth knowledge of the requirements of the COR Program. The advisory service includes a gap analysis of the company’s OHS and Return to Work programs, benchmarking them with a comprehensive safety management system, while keeping in mind the best practice requirements of the COR Audit. Following the consultation, the company will receive a summary report to highlight key findings and recommendations.

OHS Webinars

Approximately every 3 months go2HR organizes a one-hour webinar looking closely at one element of the OHS program and its link to the COR Audit. Each session will provide you with the opportunity to learn something new, connect with colleagues from different industries, and ask questions related to the topic that are relevant to your operation. It will help you better understand and implement different aspects of an OHS program.

COR Internal Auditor Training

A certified COR Internal Auditor has the ability to perform the company’s Maintenance Audits in Year 2 and Year 3 of the COR process. In order to achieve and maintain the COR Internal Auditor certification, this individual must complete the COR Internal Auditor Training submit a Student Audit, and maintain their certification.

The COR Internal Auditor Training course includes approximately 15 hours of training, 7.5 online and 7.5 in-person, and it provides:

  • an overview of the COR program;
  • elements and methodology of the COR Audit process;
  • how to prepare for a COR Audit, including the Pre-Audit Meeting;
  • how to conduct a COR Audit and collect data (e.g. reviewing documentation, observing the workplace & interviewing employees);
  • how to use the COR Audit Tool (e.g. scoring, writing notes);
  • how to write and submit a completed Audit Report; and
  • post-audit follow-up activities.

OHS Summit

This annual event offers you an opportunity to:

  • learn about the proposed changes to your sector’s annual WorkSafeBC base rates (i.e. Classification Units)
  • understand incident and injury trends and stats within the industry; what is putting your employees at risk and driving up your claim costs
  • receive updates on go2HR’s Industry Health and Safety program, including the COR program, new resources, services and initiatives
  • participate in an educational session on a variety of hot topics relevant to the industry
  • meet and network with your peers from the BC tourism and hospitality industry
  • enjoy a delicious continental breakfast, lunch and refreshments

OHS Roundtable

As requested, go2HR will host a Tourism & Hospitality OHS Roundtable in communities across BC. This two-hour session offers you an opportunity to:

  • learn about the proposed changes to your sector’s annual WorkSafeBC premium base rates
  • understand incident and injury trends and stats within the industry; what is putting your employees at risk and driving up your claim costs
  • receive information on go2HR’s Industry Health and Safety program, including the COR program, new resources, services, training and initiatives
  • discuss hot topics relevant to the industry (e.g. bullying & harassment legislation)
  • meet and network with your peers from the BC tourism and hospitality industry

OHS Resource Library

You will find a variety of free, sector-specific and customizable resources that will assist you in making your workplace healthier and safer. These resources range from OHS program templates, toolkits, forms, checklists, videos, posters and articles.

COR Tool Kit

This is a comprehensive resource helping you to understand the requirements of a COR Audit. It includes:

  • An overview of each element of a COR Audit
  • Implementation tips summarizing best practices from COR-certified companies
  • Links to relevant resources such as booklets, videos and websites
  • Training options for companies that would like to provide additional education to their staff
  • Relevant links to the OHS legislation
  • An employer’s guideline providing in-depth explanation for all audit questions from an employer’s perspective
  • More than 30 appendices you can use or modify to meet your specific needs

Safety Advisory Service

This is designed to provide the highest possible level of support to all companies involved in COR. go2HR has an in-house OHS specialist with experience in the tourism and hospitality industry and an in-depth knowledge of the requirements of the COR Program, who is available to answer any of your workplace health and safety inquiries and share best practice tips, tools and resources. This service is complimentary to any organizations registered in the COR Program.
