Step 3 of BC’s restart means that employers in BC are now able to begin transitioning away from a COVID-19 safety plan at their workplace and towards a broader communicable disease prevention approach.
Communicable disease prevention focuses on basic risk reduction principles to reduce the risk of workplace transmission of COVID-19 and other communicable diseases. The fundamental components of communicable disease prevention include both ongoing measures (including many of the overarching COVID-19 best practices that have become commonplace in recent times), as well as additional measures that may be required during specific times of elevated risk, as advised by Public Health.
Employers are not required to document or post plans for communicable disease prevention in the workplace or on their company’s website. However, employers may benefit from documenting the details of their plan to assist in planning and communicating their communicable disease prevention measures, practices and policies and to help them train their workers. WorkSafeBC’s new guide for employers contains a handy template where employers can consider the specifics of their communicable disease prevention plan and record information regarding their controls.
We recognize that the new requirement to have a communicable disease prevention plan may be confusing to some employers. That’s why go2HR’s team of health and safety professionals has launched a new service to help BC’s tourism and hospitality businesses review their communicable disease prevention plan. Our experts will review your plan and provide recommendations and feedback to help you navigate the current guidelines and make sure that you haven’t missed anything.
go2HR’s new service is designed to support employers in conducting an effective review of their communicable disease prevention plans, and to help ensure all the fundamental elements of WorkSafeBC’s guide are factored in.
B.C. tourism and hospitality employers who are interested in this complimentary service are requested to register, using the registration form below.
You will need to submit your completed communicable disease prevention plan to go2HR during the registration process. (All documents received will be treated in confidence). We may also request to schedule a 1:1 telephone consultation to learn more about your business and to discuss the specifics of your plan. Once your plan has been reviewed, we will send you a follow up email with our findings and any suggestions for further development of your plan.
And if you don’t yet have a documented communicable disease prevention plan?
We recommend that you review WorkSafeBC’s communicable disease prevention guide, which includes a template where you can record the details of your plan. Once you have filled in the template, simply upload it as part of the registration process and we will review it for you! (Be sure to save the form so that you can send it to us, make further changes and print a copy for your business).
