The Pacific National Exhibition is an iconic institution in BC, famous for bringing generations of people together to celebrate and build memories. This 113-year-old, non-profit organization has an annual operating budget of over $70 million dollars and generates revenue through four activity streams: the 15-day annual summer Fair and winter Fair which average more than 700,000 people annually, Playland amusement park which welcomes 400,000 guests annually including Fright Nights, and a busy year-round portfolio of events including concerts, trade shows and film, cultural and community events. In total we bring over 2 million people through the site each year. The fourth activity stream is park care and facility maintenance. The PNE Agriculture department operates a 5 day 4-H Festival, 15-day Farm Country pavilion and a 12-day competitive horse show. Reporting to the Manager of Agriculture, the Farm Country Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the Farm Country team, coordinating the Farm Country program, and assisting with other events within the PNE Agriculture Department. This position draws on both administrative skills and event-based management skills.
We are seeking an adaptable and guest service-focused individual that has a passion for Agriculture, the Farm Country Program, and the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE.) Our ideal candidate will have a sound knowledge of agriculture and strong understanding of livestock breeds & techniques. They will work in compliance with all health and safety requirements as determined by WorkSafeBC, and all other applicable legislation and company policies.

Responsibilities & Qualifications
What will you do this year?
In your role as a Coordinator, Farm Country, your primary accountabilities will be to:
-Assist in the planning and coordinating of the animal demonstration exhibits in the Farm Country program; including but not limited to contracting display animals and demonstrators, corresponding with contractors, and coordinating exhibitor move-ins and move-outs.
-Assist with the planning, set-up and implementation of Discovery Farm.
-Assist with hiring, training, scheduling, and processing payroll timesheets for the Farm Country Crews.
-Involved in updating or creating training manuals for the agriculture Farm Country staff.
-Manage the Consumer Protection Program; including but not limited to setting-up hand washing and sanitization stations, training staff on CPP procedures and programs, and ensuring that proper implementation and record keeping is done over the course of the Fair.
-Assist the Entry Office with competitive administration
-Work together with Barn Operations Supervisor for effective changeover and operations of the barn.
-Provide general administrative support to Agriculture department, and perform other related duties as required.
What else?
-Must have successful completion of Grade 12 and/or other post-secondary course work or training, or a combination of relevant education and work experience.
-Must have a minimum of two years of supervisory experience; and the ability to manage staff efficiently and effectively.
-Must have strong leadership skills.
-Extensive knowledge of livestock breeds, techniques and particulars of exhibiting prize animals is essential.
-Previous live event experience is an asset.
-Must have strong computer skills and be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite applications (Outlook, Word, Excel); along with excellent organizational skills.
-Must have excellent communication skills and understand the need to effectively communicate with various internal and external stakeholders.
-Ability to prioritize tasks in stressful situations, troubleshoot any issues that arise, and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.
-Must be a self-motivated and an enthusiastic team player.
-Must be able and willing to work closely with animals and hay.
-Able and willing to work extended hours, weekends and evenings when operationally required.
-Successful candidates must undergo a Criminal Record Check.
