Tasked with the strategic development and execution of 4VI’s community client and project work, the Director of Tourism Development will foster sustainable growth, cultivate a strong team and enhance the company’s advisory services in critical areas such as sustainability, storytelling, and strategy. 4VI seeks an individual with a proven track record of success in account management or a related field, demonstrating a keen ability to navigate complex project landscapes with a strategic and entrepreneurial spirit. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of community based tourism, demonstrate marketing acumen and bring a strong level of senior leadership experience. This role demands a high degree of collaboration, leadership, and innovation, as the Director, Tourism Development will work closely with various teams to design and implement solutions that align with 4VI’s vision and values.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Tourism Development
Together with the VP, oversee critical client work relating to community tourism development, storytelling, strategy, project management and implementation
Foster strong relationships with 4VI’s existing community client base
Create opportunities for new business and partnerships through networking, relationship building, community check-ins and reporting.
Together with the marketing team, lead the development of marketing and management strategies for community destination management clients . Oversee community tourism development specialist team.
Work with clients to ensure strategy and direction is approved, results are reported and communicated, challenges and problems are identified, and solutions are developed.
Provide presentations and reports to stakeholders and elected officials, where required.
Maintain ongoing awareness of tourism business engagements in the region of the destination, and support coordinators in fulfilling these requirements
Provides information to the VP and other team members that assists in the advancement of 4VI
Supports advisory services offerings as required.

Support community leads with program budgets ensuring all projects are within budgets
Provide reporting as required
Work with the Manager of Finance to outline program budgets, funding and other finance matters related to client work

Skills and Qualifications
Experience in community based tourism including rightsholder and stakeholder engagement, marketing, strategic planning and experience working with board of directors.
Understanding of destination stewardship principles and the changing landscape of tourism locally and globally
Ability to manage multiple projects and thrive under pressure
A creative mindset and ability to think outside of the box
Proven skills or experience in sales or account management can be helpful
Experience in other industries outside of tourism is an asset
Time-management, organization and leadership skills
Demonstrated experience in progressively more senior roles
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills including the ability to present to large groups and write complex reports
Excellent business judgment, analytical and decision-making skills
Ability to work well within a team environment
Ability to inspire and motivate, influence strategic decision-making and effectively manage conflicts and foster consensus
Able to travel, including use of personal vehicle
Ability to uphold and embody the core values of the Association
