The Role:
The Maintenance Technician is part of the team responsible for keeping the Museum site and its buildings safe, clean, well maintained, and open for business. Affectionately known as the ‘Department of Miracles’ this team combines strong technical skills and an abundance of creativity with a ‘can-do’ attitude. This role reports directly to the Site Manager, with day-to-day guidance from the Supervisor of Maintenance & Construction.
YOU are a DIY superstar who does what it takes to get the job done! You are hardworking and reliable. You understand the importance of keeping a site clean and shiny (even if it means getting a lot of dirt on your coveralls!). You can catch a curve-ball when a quick change in priorities is required.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
Key Responsibilities:
· Performing detailed daily inspections of the site and assets for maintenance and safety purposes
· Checking tunnel conditions and that interpretive mine equipment is operational
· Inspecting and maintaining Mill Show technical components
· Assisting with larger renovation projects
· Maintaining site buildings
· Custodial duties throughout the Museum
· Utilizing reclaimed lumber for repairs to heritage buildings
· Painting new and old buildings both inside and out
· Performing scheduled preventative maintenance tasks
· Assisting the curatorial team and events co-ordinator with projects, exhibits and special events
· Assisting with site event preparation and execution
· Skid-steer machine operation
· Site winterization and snow removal duties
· Pond maintenance
· Documenting your work as appropriate
· Other duties as assigned
You Are:
· Hardworking, reliable and care about the work you produce
· A team player with strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with various departments and individuals
· Strong familiarity with safe use of hand and small power tools
· Confident in your ability to meet deadlines
· Able to respond to changing demands
· Knowledgeable about WHMIS/SDS (will train right candidate)
· Able to lift 35kg/77lb
· Organized, with an eye for detail
· Able to work in a fast-paced, open (at times, loud) environment
We would be really impressed if:
! You have Carpentry or trades experience; electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or general mechanical
! You are a heavy equipment operator (skid steer, man lifts, etc.)
! You have worked in a similar role in a museum or tourism destination site

Qualifications:
· Basic First Aid (minimum) can be acquired after hiring
· Class 5 driver’s license
· Completion of a criminal record check (paid by the museum) in accordance with the Museum’s Child and Vulnerable People Code of Conduct after hiring.
Salary/Wage
24-27/hour
