Job Description

Job Type: Seasonal, Part-time and full-time positions available (May – Mid-October).
Job Level: Experienced. Training in March/April.

Leading guests through the stunning waters of Campbell River, the Discovery Islands, and Bute Inlet, skippers at Homalco Wildlife & Cultural Tours deliver safe and unforgettable wildlife and cultural experiences. As ambassadors of the Homalco First Nation, you collaborate with cultural guides and naturalists to share the region’s rich heritage, history, and marine wildlife, ensuring every guest leaves with lasting memories.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities:
• Safely operate vessels, ensuring compliance with all Transport Canada policies, local laws, NIMMSA guides lines and company regulations.
• Navigate diverse sea conditions with awareness of local hazards, tides, and weather.
• Maintain vessel cleanliness, functionality, and required documentation pre and post trip.
• Lead safety briefings, drills, and adhere to onboard safety protocols.
• Respond to emergencies with rescue and first aid as needed.
• Collaborate with guides to share local knowledge of wildlife, geography, and culture.
• Communicate with management and ensure smooth daily operations.
• Represent Homalco First Nation professionally while delivering memorable experiences.

Required Qualifications:
• Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP) certification.
• Small Domestic Vessel – Basic Safety (SDV-BS) certification.
• Radio Operators Certificate Marine (ROC-M) certification.
• Basic Marine First Aid or equivalent.
• Willingness to obtain MERS Naturalist certification
• Willingness to obtain CBVA Commercial Bear Viewing Level 1 certification
