Education and Experience:
1. Successful completion of a cooking apprenticeship program and a Certificate of Apprenticeship with an Interprovincial endorsement.
2. An undergraduate degree and post secondary teaching experience are preferred; however, applicants with an equivalent combination of teaching and work experience may be considered.
3. An Instructor’s Diploma or valid BC Teacher’s Certificate appropriate to the instructional assignment is preferred, and will be required following appointment in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
4. Minimum ten years’ experience in culinary arts with at least 5 years of high level culinary arts work including 2 years at an executive chef level or equivalent.
5. Experience in international food preparation and additional certification or experience is desirable.
6. Culinary competition experience would be considered an asset.
Functions and Duties:
Instructional duties may include any or all of the following:
Instructional (teaching assignments)
Course and program preparation and revision
Student contact
Student advising
Evaluation and marking of student work
Other functions related to instruction
Professional duties may include any or all of the following:
Curriculum development
Student registration
Pre-registration duties
Service may include any or all of the following:
School visitations
Participation on OC committees
Attendance at articulation meetings
Representing OC at other functions
Administrative and other duties
Professional development activity that is intended to promote teaching excellence, subject area competence, and technical competence in the area of professional or instructional expertise.

Candidates must be committed to a team approach, demonstrate good written and oral English skills and have good interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will have an exceptional teaching record with demonstrated learner-centred teaching philosophy. Schedule:
The instructional schedule typically consists of 37 weeks of instruction. A typical instructional week consists of 27.5 hours of instructional time and 2.5 hours of non-student contact time for a total of 30 hours per week. Programs are typically offered year-round.
As a continuing, full-time instructor, take full advantage of your 21 days of Curriculum and Professional Development time to pursue the enhancement of course materials as well as the enhancement of your current skills and knowledge. Also take advantage of available Professional Development funding allotted to employees every fiscal year to broaden your horizons beyond the scope of your current subject area.
In addition, the 43 days of allotted vacation allows you to take full advantage of the warm temperatures and gorgeous lakes the Okanagan has to offer in the summer and the snowy slopes and mountains offered in the winter. With stat holidays off and the holiday closure around Christmas, you will have time to spend the holidays at home with family and friends.
Annual Salary/Hourly Rate:
Salary range $69,753 to $111,776 annually; normal starting salary between $76,574 and $83,395 annually, dependent on relevant education and experience.
