Job Description

Job Type: Seasonal, Part-time and full-time positions available (May – Mid-October). Training in March/April.

Homalco Wildlife & Cultural Tours seeks skilled and passionate individuals to assist in delivering safe, educational, and memorable wildlife and cultural tours. As a Deckhand/ Naturalist, you will ensure the safety and comfort of our guests, support smooth vessel operations, and provide meaningful interpretation of local wildlife and Homalco First Nation culture.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Key Responsibilities:
• Act as deckhand to ensure guest safety and comfort while assisting the captain in the safe operation of tour vessels.
• Adhere to all company policies, safety procedures, and regulations, including Transport Canada requirements, and the NIMMSA Code of Conduct.
• Participate in safety drills and training; assist with emergency responses and first aid.
• Conduct pre-and post-trip tasks, including cleaning/ stocking of equipment and supplies.
• Provide engaging wildlife and cultural interpretation on both land and water.
• Share knowledge about local marine wildlife, geography, and the Homalco First Nation.
• Inspire guests by promoting conservation and sustainability ethics.
• Take photos of guests, wildlife, and trip highlights to enhance their experience.
• Support retail sales and assist with guest transactions as needed.

Required Qualifications:
• Small Non-pleasure Domestic Vessel Basic Safety (SDV-BS) or MED-A3 or equivalent.
• OFA Level 1 or Basic Marine First Aid.
• Radio Operators Certificate, Maritime (ROC-M).
• Willingness to obtain MERS Naturalist certification
• Willingness to obtain CBVA Commercial Bear Viewing Level 1 certification
