If you are someone with previous work experience in hospitality, tourism, outdoor recreation, or maintenance – you might be a great fit for our team. Being situated in a forested, mountainous location on the ocean, Homfray Lodge is an exciting place for outdoor enthusiasts.
We provide accommodation and meals for all employees. Given our remote location, all communications are via satellite. We have basic Wi-Fi and no cell phone service.
This role requires a full-time commitment from mid-May 2019 to mid-October 2019. The season will begin with up to 7 days of onsite training.
Our positions are safety sensitive which require no drugs or alcohol.
Note: Employees will work on a 2 week-on-1 week off rotation and must leave the lodge for their week off. Pacific Coastal Cruises will cover transport to Powell River and employees are responsible for their own transportation from there.
Homfray Lodge is in search of a self-motivated, energetic breakfast and lunch cook who takes pride is offering exceptional customer service. This person will be responsible for preparing a high-quality buffet breakfast and either packed lunches or lunch at the lodge for our 16 guests and 6-8 staff. The breakfast and lunch cook will work closely with the Chef to make sure there is consistency in the quality and presentation in the food. Will occasionally be required to fill in for head chef and take over dinner service.
-Happy to rise early to prepare breakfast buffet for guests
-Make packed lunches or at lodge lunches depending on the daily schedule
-Work with head chef to learn menu and syllabus, monitor inventory and keep kitchen clean.
-Responsible for cleaning kitchen during and after shift - dishes, floors, surfaces and fridges.
-Plus any extra duties that are asked of you by a manager
-Minimum 2 years working in kitchen
-Must create and maintain a positive BOH environment
-Must take comments or feedback professionally
-Must be self-motivated to work early hours alone
-Must have a keen eye for detail and never settle for mediocracy
-Must be physically capable of standing for long periods of time and heavy lifting
-Must be guest service focused, with a positive and upbeat personality
-Must be willing to take over for head chef and do dinner service
-Required to lead an evening talk on their topic of choice (must be relevant). This talk will provide meaningful, researched and engaging interpretive presentations. Typically 30 minutes on topics such as bioluminescence, grizzly bears, wildlife, First Nations, star gazing, environmental concerns, etc.
-Be willing to lead guests in activities like trail walks, storytelling, games, or campfire music to enrich the guests’ experience and engage them in friendly conversation throughout the trip.
Note: Candidates with some of the noted or other relevant certificates as well as the appropriate wilderness leadership and risk management training who are willing to get the required certifications will be considered.
