Position: Catering Cook
Working Conditions: Part Time - Event Based
Wage & Pay Grade:

  • $17.20/hour without Red Seal (PG38) + 10% in lieu of benefits and vacation
  • $19.80/hour with Red Seal (PG 44) + 10% in lieu of benefits and vacation


We are seeking a hardworking and motivated individual who has a passion for the Food & Beverage Industry and the Pacific National Exhibition (PNE). The Food & Beverage department is looking for an experienced Catering Cook with strong communication and time-management skills. The Catering Cook will be responsible for preparing food according to production guidelines and recipes for a variety of catered functions.

The Catering Cook of the Food & Beverage Department will work under the direction of the Head Cook is expected to maintain a high standard of food quality and presentation, while ensuring work is performed in compliance with FOODSAFE  guidelines and all other applicable legislation and company policies.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Cook and prepare food according to production guidelines and recipes for a variety of catered functions, as well as PNE concession stands
  • Understand and demonstrate proper operation of standard cooking and kitchen equipment such as gas ranges, ovens, deep fat fryers, steam cookers, meat slicers, dishwashers and other related equipment
  • Ensure food is stored at the appropriate temperature for the appropriate length of time, following all food safety standards
  • Ensures that the highest quality of food is served in a timely and effective manner
  • Responsible for using correct portions when cutting, preparing, and serving items
  • Cut, trim, and carve meats and poultry for cooking
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work station
  • Control food waste, loss, and usage per standard operating procedures
  • Maintenance of all walk in coolers including labeling, dating, and rotating all products
  • Ensure PNE Uniform and Appearance Policy is adhered to at all times
  • Performs other related duties as required

Job Requirements

  • Must have a minimum of 1-2 years’ experience cooking in the Food & Beverage industry
  • Must have successful completion of Grade 12
  • Post-Secondary education in a related field is considered an asset
  • Must be FOODSAFE Level 1 Certified
  • Previous experience helping supervise prep cooks is considered an asset
  • Must possess excellent communication & interpersonal skills in order to establish effective working relationships with staff, guests and clients
  • Must have a strong understanding and knowledge of methods, materials and tools used in large scale cooking as well as short order cooking
  • Must be able to follow recipes and safely operate all kitchen equipment
  • Must be able to prepare and present food in an attractive manner
  • Ability to work extended hours and weekends during peak periods as needed
