Job Responsibilities:

You are proud to call yourself a Cook. You have culinary training under your belt and you want to evolve within the industry – learning from seasoned cooks. You can turn out consistent food according to recipe standards, and can consistently deliver to the standards of food quality provided by the guidelines of the Sous-Chefs and Executive Chef. With your precise knife skills and knowledge of a variety of cooking methods you are able to transform raw materials into beautiful dishes. You are excited to use your more advanced skills of sauce and soup making, portioning and secondary butchering to stand out as a capable team player in the kitchen. You are unflappable, maintaining a pristinely clean work area and can-do attitude even when the kitchen is operating at full capacity.

You are a high energy and friendly person who embraces the opportunity of working with the Sous Chef to build the restaurant’s reputation by assisting with menu development. You have all requisite qualifications of a secondary school education, excellent customer service skills and the completion of either a three-year apprenticeship program for cooks, completion of college or other program in cooking, or several years of commercial cooking experience.  You possess a Food Safe certification and WHMIS (ideally).

  • Secondary food production, preparation, cuts and transformation of all raw products, cooking of all ingredients, all cooking methods; sautéing, grilling, roasting, frying, baking, poaching, steaming, stewing, braising, smoking etc. 
  • Sauce and soup making, portioning, secondary butchering, pastries and all required items for cold and hot line cooking in casual and fine dinning restaurant as well as banquet
  • Maintaining a standard of food quality in accordance to the guide line provided by the Sous-Chefs and Chef
  • Providing professional guidance and training to lower ranking fellow workers
  • Maintaining order, rotation and appropriate levels of production of food in main kitchen refrigerators and dry storages 

First Cook Wage: starting at $16.50/hr

Job Requirements

Qualifications: 
  • Completion of secondary school is preferred
  • Must have one of the following three completed:
    • Completion of a three-year apprenticeship program for cooks
    • Completion of college or other program in cooking
    • Several years of commercial cooking experience are required.
  • Proficient knowledge of food safety
  • FOODSAFE certificate required
  • WHMIS required
  • Possess excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to train personnel
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • High energy and strong work ethic
