Position Overview

Reporting to the Director, Market Development, this position is responsible for the travel media and corporate communications programme for Tourism Sun Peaks. This role involves conducting in-resort and in-market media relations activities, developing communications tools and ensuring all media related material is current. This position holds a key responsibility in developing and implementing proactive media efforts to grow positive media coverage for the destination.

Summary Of Responsibilities

  • Primary media liaison with regional and international media outlets and industry
  • Assist the Director in developing the media relations strategy, tactical plan and budget
  • Proactive media outreach; pitch story ideas, resort news and events to qualified media
  • Foster relationships with travel media, industry and membership
  • Develop, write and distribute press releases, story ideas, and other editorial material as required
  • Conduct in-market media visits with industry, media representatives and freelancers
  • Manage the media pages of SunPeaksResort.com
  • Create and coordinate FAM itineraries and host visiting media and journalists
  • Manage media database (Top 100 Media), distribution lists, media clippings and budget
  • Develop and maintain travel media tools (i.e. flatsheets, story ideas etc.)
  • Fulfill media requests (i.e. Image library, fact checking, B-roll etc.)
  • Attend media shows and conferences as required
  • Assist in corporate communications as required

Job Requirements

Qualifications: 

Skills Knowledge And Abilities:"

  • Post-secondary education in public relations, communications, journalism or tourism
  • Superior communications skills (written, oral, interpersonal and on-air speaking)
  • Minimum 2 years experience in a media, marketing or client services based role
  • Competency in Microsoft Office
  • Passion and energy for the outdoor and mountain lifestyle (must be a minimum intermediate level skier or snowboarder)
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and work with a high level of efficiency
  • Proactive and innovative in your approaches to maximizing earned media potential
  • Detail oriented with strong organisational and time management skills
  • Ability to generate interest though compelling storytelling consistent with the Sun Peaks brand
  • Ability to work weekends and evenings as required, some travel required
  • Ability to bring new ideas into fruition
  • Enjoys and is motivated by working both autonomously and in a team setting
  • Knowledge of video editing software, Adobe Photoshop, media monitoring software and photography is an asset
