The Victoria Caledonian Distillery, owned and operated by Macaloney Brewers & Distillers Ltd,  is a new and upcoming tourist destination and single malt whisky-craft beer business located just minutes from downtown Victoria. Over 250 investors have come together to fund this local venture which will produce premium quality single malt whisky and excellent craft beer. Our products will be exported to over 30 countries and between 30,000 – 100, 000 tourists are ultimately expected to visit our facility every year. Quality has been woven into the heart of our business, and we strive to produce the best possible whisky, beer, and tour experiences. To meet this goal, we chose to locate in Victoria for its tourism potential, and have drawn from both the finest ideas of tradition and state of the art brewing and distilling. Our business model and facility have already attracted an international team of world-class professionals, and we are looking to expand our ranks. Tour guides are a critical aspect of our business as the primary point of interaction between the Victoria Caledonian Distillery and our guests. All tour guides should consistently exhibit a welcome, confident.

Responsibilities:

  • Meet with and engage with guests to establish a friendly and welcoming atmosphere while also creating a memorable experience
  • Safely lead groups through the distillery. This will include the visitor centre, production floor, storage areas, and lounge.
  • Confidently present factual information in a fun, entertaining, and friendly way. Tour guides will be trained in all aspects of production and must be able to convey this information to an audience in an interesting and amusing way
  • Assist in the gift shop and bar between tours. Operate a cashier and process customer payments
  • Serve our excellent range of whisky, beer and other beverages in our onsite tasting bar
  • Answer customer questions regarding both our products and the brewing and distilling process
  • Promote and upsell the distillery’s products during the tour
  • Guide guests through a tutored whisky and/or craft beer tasting, while using this opportunity to promote our products

Job Requirements

Qualifications: 

Skills /  Requirements:

  • Confident, friendly, and outgoing personality
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Comfortable presenting to groups of up to 30 people
  • Willingness to learn and develop a working knowledge of beer and whisky production
  • Strong work ethic and a passion for business success
  • Flexible schedule
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods                  
  • Attaining a ‘Serve It Right’ certificate will be required for employment
  • Fluent in English, other languages would be an asset

Macaloney Distillers is committed to a diverse, flexible, convivial work environment with salary and benefits commensurate with experience. Part time tour guides work 4-8 hour shifts and the distillery is open between 10am and 10pm 7 days a week.  We do our best to work around your schedule.
