Job Description: 

The Tourism Visitor Information Counsellor (TVIC) is the initial point of contact for visitors to British Columbia.  They have the opportunity to influence travel plans andcreate unforgettable experiences for visitors to BC.  The second part of this position is as a Special Event Assistant. This position will assist with the implementation of the strategic marketing plan and will work with the marketing team to coordinate and promote an arts event in Surrey.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure brochure and retail displays are fully stocked and well merchandised
  • Sell attraction tickets via in house ticketing system
  • Perform general office &  visitor centre duties in accordance with established policies
  • Participate at local community events
  • Assist with the preparation of newsletters, communication pieces and special features
  • Work with the Arts Council of Surrey, Semiahmoo Arts, and industry partners to organize an annual  Art in the City Tour for the City of Surrey
  • Research  and create potential partner database
  • Implement marketing tactics for the event
  • Develop and design collateral material for the event including website, map, &promotional
  • Create content and  blog for social media
  • Research Surrey information and update as required
  • Work with Marketing Manger to implement tactics for existing programs
  • Assist with other marketing projects as assigned

Job Requirements

  • Knowledge of attractions, events, tourism products and services in the local areais an asset
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Able to demonstrate initiative and self motivation
  • Graphic design, web design and marketing skills an asset
  • Able to commit to a schedule that includes weekends, evenings and stat holidays
  • Able to commit to employment through September 3, 2016
  • Be eligible for the Canada Summer Job Program
