As part of North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week, tourism employers were invited to nominate an individual or team that had made an outstanding contribution and commitment to safety and health in their workplace. We are pleased to announce that Shane Clarey from FlyOver Canada won the Individual Champion award, while Revelstoke Mountain Resort’s Lindsay McIntyre, Devin Knopf and Mario Daigle won the Team Champions award.
As one of the industry’s Health and Safety Associations, go2HR reviewed the nominations and helped select the individual and team winners. We received many worthy and commendable nominations and had to make some difficult decisions. The winners came out on top with the following highlights:
Individual Champion: At FlyOver Canada, the words “Safe” and “Shane” are synonymous. Shane Clarey, a staff on the operations team, won the NAOSH Safety & Health Individual Champion for “loudly and persistently advocating the importance of safety, using creative methods” and creating a fun and engaging culture of safety.
Team Champions: The team of Lindsay McIntyre, Devin Knopf and Mario Daigle at Revelstoke Mountain Resort went above and beyond in their safety efforts with recommendations to management, writing of new or changing policies and procedures. Their colleague who submitted the nomination noted: “It’s a pleasure to have them as part of our joint health and safety committee and to attend meetings with these folks.”
“We congratulate Shane, Lindsay, Devin, and Mario on their commitment and dedication to workplace health and safety,” said Arlene Keis, go2HR’s CEO. “Safety is everyone’s responsibility and by taking action to create and promote outstanding safety cultures in their work environments, these individuals set a fine example for our industry as safety champions. Thank you for all your hard work.”
