Two teams of post-secondary students from Selkirk College submitted their Winning Pitch concepts and presentations via video earlier this month. The Winning Pitch, hosted by go2HR, is a case competition where post-secondary students apply their strategic thinking to come up with a new tourism business or service idea based on a local, realistic scenario to support the destination development in each host region. This year, teams were asked to develop and pitch a new product or service that supports the development of shoulder- or off-season tourism opportunities in the Kootenay Rockies region.
The judges were very impressed with both ideas, which are innovative and creative, and both teams came very close on the scoring. In the end, The Kootenay Lake Rail Tour proposal won, so a big congratulations to team members Akshaya, Akshay, Leslie, Lina and Tri. They will be representing the Kootenay Rockies region at the Provincial Winning Pitch Competition taking place at the Tourism Industry Conference in Kelowna on March 7, 2018.
Videos of the teams’ pitches are available on our Youtube channel.
Thank you to our regional judges:
- Jamie Mayers, Program Manager, Imagine Kootenays
- Heidi Roemich, Owner, The Heidout Restaurant and Brewhouse
- Kathy Cooper, CEO, Kootenay Rockies Tourism
