Thompson Rivers University to Represent at Provincial Winning Pitch Competition

On November 2, three teams of post-secondary students from the Thompson Okanagan region competed in the Winning Pitch regional competition. The Winning Pitch, hosted by go2HR, is a case competition where post-secondary students apply their strategic thinking to come up with a new tourism business or service idea based on a local, realistic scenario to support the destination development in each host region. This year, teams were asked to develop and pitch a new product or service that supports the development of shoulder season or off-season tourism opportunities in the Thompson Okanagan region. The regional competition was held at the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association Summit in Kamloops.

Thompson Rivers University’s team, made up of students Max Beertema, Hafdis Jonsdottir, Erica Johnson and Kim Smith, took home First Place with their proposal of “42 Eau Resort & Spa”. They will move on to pitch their plan at the provincial finals during the 2018 Tourism Industry Conference in Kelowna. Congratulations, Team 42 Eau!

The other two competing teams include:

  • Team “Technology Experience Creation” from Thompson Rivers University: Ruslan Azarov, Eileen Yu Geng, Michaela DeMelo and Sophia Koutsandreas
  • Team “Okanagan Cycle & Shuttle” from Okanagan College: Brianne Graf, Sophia Martins and Princeton Skavas

We want to thank our regional judges:

  • Richard Millie, Charter Manager, Bluestar
  • Chris Scott, Consultant/Entrepreneur
  • Vivek Sharma, General Manager, Sun Peaks Grand Hotel & Conference Centre
  • Lisa White, Industry Relations & Communications Specialist, Tourism Kamloops
