Job Description

Archival Assistant
For the summer of 2024, the Westbank Museum is seeking an Archival Assistant.
We wish to build on the efforts of previous years by continuing to reorganize and simplify our archival holdings. Since 2022 we have received nearly a thousand new artifacts from pioneer families; much of this content reflects the lives of pioneer women, particularly those that worked in the fruit packing industry. Amongst these items are many maps and photographs that need to be worked through.
For 2024, our goal is to have the Archival Assistant work through this material helping us to organize and catalogue it better. We are also seeking to determine which artifacts should be integrated into our permanent displays. In addition to this hands-on approach, they will have the opportunity to research and write about what they have found with their efforts being included within the museum, our newsletter, and our website. Working closely with the Museum Coordinator they will create meaningful content that improves the museum’s displays.
The successful candidate will have the passion and enthusiasm in highlighting untold stories. This position also provides opportunities to enhance learning in indigenous studies, history, culture, and communications. This will be a full-time 16-week position and will be assuming the responsibility to coordinate, participate, facilitate, and work with professionals, as well as research, and write up historical information.
This position will is offered at $18.25 per hour beginning May 13, 2024, or sooner depending on the skills and experience of the candidate.
The position is open to post-secondary students returning to full-time studies in the next academic year.
