Job Description

Reporting to Manager of Community & Visitor Engagement, the Community Specialist is a key member of Tourism Kelowna’s team, providing welcoming and authentic service to visitors and locals, while at the same time promoting area businesses, activities, and attractions to encourage longer stays, increased spending, and return visits, which positively impacts the Central Okanagan’s vital tourism economy.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities:
• Welcome all visitors and residents to the Kelowna Visitor Centre or Mobile Visitor Centre; determine needs and provide complete and accurate service.
• Maintain superior level of customer service and high level of community knowledge on products, services, and events.
• Answer inquiries via phone, email, Simpleview CRM, LiveChat, and other platforms.
• Complete all daily and weekly tasks as outlined in the Operations Binder.
• Perform sales, restocking, and monthly inventory count of Tourism Kelowna’s retail, consignment, and ticket options.
• Update the Tourism Kelowna online events calendar daily.
• Maintain organization and cleanliness in the Kelowna Visitor Centre and its storage areas; keep the exterior of the building tidy.
• Keep brochure racks well stocked and organized (will involve carrying boxes).
• Attend monthly meetings (in-service training, product knowledge, familiarization tours, site visits).
• Develop and maintain excellent member relations while performing callouts, audits, and brochure orders.
• Collect, compile, and accurately report statistical information from the Kelowna Visitor Centre and mobile locations in accordance with Destination BC and Tourism Kelowna guidelines.
• Meet minimum Visitor Centre Network standards as determined by Destination British Columbia.
• Update and maintain digital signage in the downtown Kelowna Visitor Centre and Kelowna International Airport Kiosk.
• Handle other duties as assigned by Manager of Community & Visitor Engagement, Retail Coordinator, or Director of Destination Development.
• Maintain professionalism and adhere to Tourism Kelowna’s uniform policies while on shift.
• Operate and set up mobile visitor services equipment which may include but is not limited to tents, bikes, trailers, activations, etc.

Qualifications:
• Work or volunteer experience related to customer service.
• Demonstrated enthusiasm for Kelowna and the Central Okanagan.
• Knowledge of activities/attractions/experiences available in the area.
• Ability to speak a second language fluently is an asset.
• Strong proficiency with computers and website navigation.
• Enjoyment of routine, including continuously greeting and providing services to guests, including visitors and locals.
• Ability to complete tasks that require attention to detail and organization.
• Ability to lift and maneuver 30 lbs. boxes.
• Class 5 Driver’s License.
