Reporting to the Hotel Manager, the Director of Sales & Marketing will bring experience and expertise from within the Vancouver hospitality market, have an eye for detail, a passion for exceeding standards and targets, and the ability to produce results. The Director of Sales & Marketing will direct, motivate, and lead the Sales, Events and Marketing team through implementation of effective sales strategies in line with overall hotel positioning, with an objective to maximize hotel revenues while ensuring the balance between Colleague, Guest, and Owner satisfaction. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

• With high integrity, leads and develops the Sales, Events, and Marketing team in delivering Shangri-La hospitality according to brand standards
• Inspire a high level of creativity, personal commitment to service excellence and an emotional sense of gracious hospitality, ensuring the delivery of a luxury experience to guests while optimizing all revenue opportunities
• Develops, implements, monitors, and recommends sales strategies, room rate mix, space release policies, contracts, catering segment mix, and pricing strategies to maximize occupancy and revenue from high potential leisure and corporate businesses
• Regularly analyzes competitor data, market intelligence and industry trends and adjusts strategic plans accordingly
• Actively participates in all hotel business reviews and actively contributes to the annual budget process for the hotel, presenting strategy and financials to both Corporate Office and Ownership
• Motivate Sales & Events Managers to achieve targeted goals through market research, online data, trade shows, journals, sales analysis
• Work with Sales & Events Managers to ensure proper coverage of key accounts, assist with site inspections, client entertainment, trade shows, and familiarization trips, as required
• Leads the Sales, Events and Marketing team and utilizes effective Customer Relationship Management techniques, software, and other initiatives to build and maintain relationships for Shangri-La Vancouver’s active and potential clientele
• Effectively directs all communication efforts within department including contracts, proposals, and scripting for site inspections, while maintaining positive communication with other departments in the hotel
• Ensures the implementation and activation of a strategic marketing plan, organizing and executing promotional activities in order to achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual goals
• Oversees the management of public relations, communications and marketing strategies for the hotel, developing packages and collateral to support the growth of business throughout the hotel.
• Drives the success of the sales and events department in meeting established targets and goals to maximize profitability
• Actively collaborates with Revenue Management, Corporate Marketing & Communications, Reservations, and both hotel operational and administrative divisions to ensure full activation and integration of the sales, events, and marketing departments
• Ensures both personal and departmental compliance to all hotel policies, procedures, programs, as released
• Liaises with the Regional Office to plan to execute and monitor sales and marketing strategies, ensuring optimization of all sales channels
• This role will represent Shangri-La Vancouver at national and international trade shows and sales trips. Flexibility to travel will be required and the final candidate must have a valid passport to undertake occasional travel, when required
• Undertakes other ad hoc related responsibilities, as required

Responsibilities & Qualifications

• Applicants must possess the legal right to work in Canada.
• Previous work experience in a similar capacity within another property is required.
• Demonstrated experience in leading the sales, marketing & events functions in another hotel is required.
• Previous sales experience in the Vancouver market is strongly preferred
• Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills are required with an understanding of both global and local markets

Salary/Wage

130K - 145K
