Location: We are seeking an experienced Food & Beverage Service Operations Manager in Events for our Vancouver Convention Centre operation.

Sodexo Live! is the Official Supplier of Food and Beverage Services to the Vancouver Convention Centre. Located on Vancouver’s waterfront with a dramatic mountain backdrop, the award-winning Vancouver Convention Centre offers one of the most beautiful settings in the world. As British Columbia’s flagship convention centre, the facility hosts more than 500 events and welcomes hundreds of thousands of attendees each year, while generating significant economic activity for the Province.

Principal Function:
The F&B Service Operations Manager is directly responsible for the planning, preparation, set-up, service, break-down and cleanup of breakfasts, luncheons, dinners, receptions and other group events. This position provides supervision, leadership and direction to Banquet employees in both front and back of house. They are responsible for ensuring that events are executed smoothly and in accordance with guest specifications, to include linens, décor, set up, menu and all aspects of service.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Essential Responsibilities:
– Maximize Sodexo Live!’s revenue and operational excellence through implementation and oversight of systems and policies related to banquet events.
– Contributes to the efficient operation of business unit by partnering with Director of Operations, Catering and Culinary departments; monitors and ensures all aspects of operations are completed in an efficient and effective manner by employees.
– Provides leadership and direction to banquets catering employees to deliver a customer service in accordance with Sodexo Live! standards and policies.
– Maximize customer satisfaction by coordinating events in accordance with Sodexo Live! standards, guest expectations and specifications as per Banquet Event Orders and catering contracts.
– Monitor and control productivity and payroll on a daily basis to ensure budgets and goals are consistently achieved. Provide labour forecasts and continually monitor labour performance.
– Ensure compliance in responsible alcohol service, Worksafe BC and all applicable health and safety regulations at all events.
– Provide consistent floor supervision of all Banquets and other food and beverage events. Ensure efficient operation of banquet functions by coordinating and providing assignments and communicating directions for banquet staff.
– Maintain effective communication with clients as well as Event Services and Catering Sales Managers before, during and after every function to ensure expectations are consistently exceeded.
– Train Supervisor and Servers on assigned responsibilities for set-up and service of functions based on instructions set forth in the BEO.
– Ensure that all Staff is in proper uniform and that all are well groomed.
– Confer with Director of Operations/Catering Director regarding problem areas; Make recommendations for increasing efficiency and for changing procedure.
– As part of the management team, strongly and positively influences team collaboration within Service Operations and between other departments and the Facility at all times.
– Recruitment, training, motivation and development of a professional team of Service employees dedicated to providing a superior guest experience.
– Contributes to goal of making Sodexo Live! #1 in Event Hospitality and the #1 Employer of Choice through personal commitment and leading by example.

Qualifications/Skills:
– Bachelor’s degree and/or appropriate combination of education and work experience to facilitate on-the-job effectiveness.
– Minimum of 5 years of previous Food and Beverage Supervisory/Management experience preferably in a large-scale hotel or high-quality convention centre.
– Exceptional computer skills and familiarity with property management systems such as a Banquet Event Order Software.
– Proven ability to work effectively with all levels of staff and management; Ability to promote and participate in team environment concepts.
– Must have unwavering and exceptional service delivery standards.
Self-starter who can work independently and on several tasks/projects simultaneously, and who can contribute to functional areas of the business outside of the finance area.
– Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Initiative in identifying and resolving problems timely and effectively.
– Serving It Right and Food Safe Certification.

Other Requirements:
– Able to work effectively and safely while subject to wet floors, temperature extremes and excessive noise; must be able to lift up to 50 pounds in weight; must be able to maneuver in an often tightly-quartered environment.

Hours may be extended or irregular to include nights, weekends and holidays.

Salary/Wage

$34.00 - $36.00 per hour
