JOB SUMMARY:
The Patrol Manager is responsible for managing a team of 30 to 40 paid Grouse Patrollers and Mountain Safety. The Patrol Department is responsible for first aid, emergency response and risk management for Grouse Mountain including the Ski Area and Bike Park. The Patrol Manager is required to work a minimum of 40 hours a week including weekends and holidays. A typical work day will include a mixture of office work and on snow (winter) or dirt (in the summer) hands on work. The position requires an experienced leader who will lead by example and be a role model and mentor to Patrollers. The role requires a passion for skiing, mountain biking and the tourism/outdoor industry.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Patrol Manger works closely with three departments; Patrol, Occupational Health and Safety and Mountain Operations. Patrol Manager is responsible for:

Health and Safety:

Assisting the Safety Advisor with WorkSafeBC claims management
Working with the Safety Advisor to maintain the Occupational First Aid Program
Assisting the Safety Advisor with emergency procedures training exercises
Participating in the annual COR Audit

Patrol:

Coordinating, recording and data management for the 1Risk database, including Incident Reporting, Checklist Management and Dispatch Records
Payroll and Scheduling for the Patrol Department
Hiring and recruiting for the Patrol Department
Maintaining Patrol Training Records and assisting Patrol Supervisors with the Patrol Training Program
Guest and staff accident paperwork review and follow up
Completing accident investigations
Act as liaison between the Patrol Department and other departments on the mountain
Organize Pre-Season Patrol training in the Summer and Winter
Ordering supplies and maintaining inventories
Implementing, developing and maintaining the Patrol risk management strategies for the Ski Area and Bike Park
Annually Updating the Patrol SOP and training checklists
Leading first aid trauma calls on the ski hill and bike park
Incident Commander during emergency procedures
Avalanche Control using explosives and ski cutting
Covering Patrol Supervisor and Snow Shoe Park Patroller shifts when required
Running Patroller operational debriefs and providing mental health resources to Patrollers
Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
The Patrol Manager is responsible for managing a Patrol Team of approximately 30 to 40 members. The Patrol Manager is responsible for directly supervising 4 Patrol Supervisors and an Avalanche Forecaster.

QUALIFICATIONS:
OFA Level 3 or Licensed EMR
Peak Emergency Advanced Protocol Course
CAA Level 1
Work Safe Avalanche Blasting
Rope Rescue Training (Different Courses will be reviewed)
Three years of Patrol experience
Two Years of Supervisor or Manager experience
Valid Class 5 driver license

SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Advanced skier, hiker and mountain biker who is physically fit to complete all daily patrol tasks
Proficient at operating snowmobiles and ATV’s
Strong leadership skills with a positive personality
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft 365 and Ceridian Dayforce
Strong computer skills with the ability to quickly learn new systems
Risk Management Experience (Preferably Ski/Bike Industry)
Ability to perform in stressful situations

Salary/Wage

59,000 - $64,000
