Job Description

Do you enjoy working outdoors in fresh mountain air? We are seeking a motivated and experienced Saw Crew Lead Hand to join our team for the summer. Are you good with people and handy with tools? As the Saw Crew Lead Hand, you will be working closely and supporting a small crew in several different locations and terrain in the controlled recreation area of Sun Peaks Resort. You will be responsible for daily task delegation, record keeping, equipment maintenance, team safety compliance, and various maintenance and landscaping tasks across the resort. You will also be a Sun Peaks Resort Initial Fire Attack Crew member. Bike parks, golf rounds and lake days await you on your days off. Responsibilities & Qualifications

Physical Requirement:

Heavy; Work activities involve handling loads more than 20KG. Predominately outdoor work environment.

This job position requires physical presence at the designated location.

Accountabilities:

Meet with staff at the start of each day and review the work list, identify priorities, and then delegate tasks to the crew
Lead and document the morning safety meeting and review equipment needs, vehicle assignments, special instructions, PPE requirements, mountain information updates, weather, concerns and successes, etc., setting daily completion goals
Monitor work being done to ensure that all WorkSafe regulations and SOG’s are followed daily and ensure that the crew is aware of safety concerns in and around the area they are working
Maintenance of slopes including trail maintenance, re-vegetation, clearing and brushing, erosion, signage, and improvements
Cattle control (building and maintaining smooth wire fences, electric fences, and gates
To treat co-workers and company equipment with the utmost respect
To be trained and respond to Wildfire within our resort recreational area
Proper utilization of all safety equipment required in the performance of daily activities
Ensure that equipment inventories are maintained and tools are available when needed
Maintain crew equipment in top working order (chainsaws, brush cutters, Quads, SideXsides and ensure that appropriate action is taken to repair your tools
Planning of future work to be done
Daily progress tracking of work to ensure timely completion of the task before starting another
Ideal Candidate:

2 year’s previous experience on Summer Slopes Power Saw Operator.
A “hands on” supervisor who leads by example with a solid work ethic
19 years of age or older
Valid class 5 driver’s license and clean abstract (we will require a consent form signed so the abstract can be checked)
A team player, self-motivated, with proven leadership skills and the ability to motivate others
Ability to work as part of a team and possess the willingness to learn and progress
Prepared and enjoys working outdoors in all weather conditions.
Excellent time management and planning skills
Previous Wildfire Suppression experience as an asset
Must be able to work a flexible schedule (weekends and holidays) as required by summer operating hours, special events and Fire Danger Rating
