Job Description

Context:
Imagine waking up with no commute, minutes away from world class hikes, paddleboarding, cross-country skiing, and more.
Now, imagine that life just 2.5 hours outside of Vancouver, with over $25,000 in perks (4-6 weeks paid vacation, a company truck, your own circuit spa, free rent, free utilities / internet) on top of an up to $40,000 salary.

Our ideal manager – who we are willing to wait for (targeting a September start) – is enticed by the lifestyle and stability this offers. It’s perfect for those who want to hone their art while building their savings account. It’s perfect for a couple who want to be close to the city, but have enough space and distance to be truly enveloped in nature. It’s ideal for a long-time service sector worker who is looking for a healthier pace.

The Stonewater was lovingly created out of the vision of Qaid Jivan, and his business partner Bhavya Mandloi – the full story is much longer and more fun. This team will remain fully available and nearby (physically) to support and curate events, and continue to grow nearby operations with other businesses as well.

A day in the life:
A day-in-the-life starts with a coffee and a 2-min walk over to the circuit spa to get it ready for the day’s guests around 9am. Your phone rings for a question about a family staying for an extended period – you answer and explain a variety of options, and they finish their booking online. You test the hot tub levels, and head back to the office, chatting with a couple guests who are checking out today. Your cleaning staff arrives and you brief them on some specifics – unit 108 has paid for late checkout.

You greet the first spa guests, sign them off on the waiver, and take them to the spa area. There aren’t too many checkouts today, and given guests can simply leave (check-in and check-out are automated), you decide to make a big breakfast and hop on a call with a friend on the mainland. You have three more spa appointments during the day to greet.

By about 2pm, the cleaners are finishing up. You inspect a few rooms, making sure they’re ready for the 3pm check-in.

Everyone checked into their rooms today using their automated door code, but one group pops by the office looking for some board games and recommendations. You chat with them for a little while, and they head out to watch the Skookumchuck rapids.

You get about 4-5 more calls during the day about bookings and questions, most lasting under 5 minutes. A group staying longer asks for more coffee around 6pm, so you drop it off. Around 8pm, someone calls for a late 1-night booking, and you handle this all from your phone (even though they’re at the front door)…because you’re out taking an evening dip at Ruby Lake. True story.

In between these moments, you were able to head out to get lunch at the local Sushi Spot with a friend, get a quick Yoga session in (followed by your own sauna/cold plunge), and chat with a pal. In total, you worked for 4 hours.

Before the end of the day, you jot down the rooms needed for cleaning the next day for the cleaners. You also notice the washer is leaking, so you tighten a bolt and it seems to help, but you flag it to your leadership team via email with a photo.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities:
– Above all, you’re responsible for keeping all guests comfortable. – – You have a high bar for service and cleanliness, and top-tier emotional intelligence.
– Manage the phone, always.
– Manage the spa – it’s self service, but a warm welcome goes a long way.
– Be available for emergencies for guests, whenever that happens.
– Manage bookings online, both simple individual bookings and closing complex ones with solid sales skills (groups).
– Lead the Groundskeeper, Cleaner, Maintenance, and other contractors as needed. Cover for the Groundskeeper and Cleaner, if required, re-hire if needed (with support from Management).
– Create content for Instagram, TikTok, and other media forms (we can help).
– Connect with the community via community events.
– Improve our existing systems, and commit to 1-2 onsite projects per month (e.g. sanding the benches, painting the doors, etc.)
– Most importantly: a long-term commitment to the business and the vision (5 years).

Reporting and other expectations:
You will be reporting to someone on the management company (Qaid) on a regular (daily, then weekly/bi-weekly) basis. You will be required to attend quarterly and annual planning sessions. Raises and reviews will be annual, in addition to opportunities to be involved in our new projects. You will be expected to lead the Stonewater – our core business – while we grow in the region.

Qualifications:
No specific hotel/motel management experience required. We’ll know the right person and are happy to deliver as much training as needed. Very nice to have qualifications include:
– Extensive experience in the service and/or retail sector, engaging personality.
– Experience or education in business management, corporate sales, and operations.
– Interest/experience in living in a place like the Sunshine Coast / Pender Harbour area. It’s technically a remote location, and that’s not for everyone!
– You’re a natural with technology stuff, you probably just grew up around it, and know how to troubleshoot intuitive systems confidently. We’re not saying you’re a coder, we’re just saying you know how to troubleshoot a technical issue with confidence.

Must be approved, taken at 3-or-more days at a time. - Yes - if you have a partner / child / dog, they’re welcome to join you in the home.
