Job Description

Whistler Sliding Centre is a world-class bobsleigh, skeleton and luge facility located above Whistler Village on the side of Blackcomb Mountain. True to its mission to grow sport, the venue is not only used for training and competition by athletes from beginner to world class level, but it is also the only place in Canada where public can try bobsleigh and skeleton to slide like an Olympian with no experience required.

Head Coach, Bobsleigh develops and coordinates recruitment, development and provincial programs for Whistler Sport Legacies (WSL) at the Whistler Sliding Centre (WSC). Reports to the Manager, Sport to coordinate sport program delivery. Primary program focus is delivery of provincial, and national objectives as determined by WSL and other sport stakeholders.

Coach, Bobsleigh – Sport Experience Program coordinates, recruits and develops Bobsleigh Pilots (pilots) for Whistler Sliding Centre (WSC) public programs. Primary responsibilities include coordinating, scheduling and delivery of objectives/requirements for pilot supervision, training and competency. Seasonal part time role requires flexibility to assist the team with other activities or initiatives, including availability to work evenings and weekends as required.

October 14, 2025 to March 30, 2026

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Head Cach, Bobsleigh
• Provide sport specific coaching expertise to all affiliated programs, groups and coaches
• Manage training and recruitment of sliding athletes as required to meet program targets
• Develop and deliver bobsleigh sport programs with stakeholders and evolve Sliding Sport programs in the Sea to Sky Corridor in accordance with organizational, provincial and international standards
• Coordinate delivery and support of effective training and competition plans for provincial and development bobsleigh athletes
• Monitor and review athlete performance, and coordinate feedback to athletes for improvement
• Provide logistic and technical support, as well as mentoring to all bobsleigh athletes
• Ensure the welfare of the athletes is maintained by making sure they are aware of available support structures, and encourage a harmonious team environment by liaising with all members and support staff
• Ensure effective communication with parents, guests, athletes, coaches, and officials
• Understanding that:
o WSL has the ability to contract Sport Coaches to other stakeholders without additional remuneration
o Sport Coaches are not at liberty to personally sub-contract their services to any stakeholder without prior permission
• Identify, prepare and ensure safety of equipment and training sites
• Provide technical experience in the building, preparation, and maintenance of sport equipment

Coach, Bobsleigh – Sport Experience Program
• Oversee and mentor current and prospective pilots while evaluating their technical competencies for the Sport Experience Program (SEP)
• Provide job specific coaching to SEP pilots
• Monitor and review pilot performance, and coordinate feedback for improvement where required
• Coordinate pilot schedules and ensure this information is shared within appropriate time constraints to required WSC departments / managers
• Provide ongoing logistic and technical support, as well as mentoring pilots
• Safely develop and progress pilots to the specified start height
• Ensure safety requirements of SEP Bobsleigh equipment is monitored through documented processes and required daily inspections
• Meet the position requirements of a trained SEP bobsleigh pilot and be available to drive guests down the track in a four-person bobsleigh during the program as scheduled or required:
o Conducts pre-checks of sleds before sessions
o Pilot guests in a four-man WSC public bobsleigh on the Whistler track
o Interact with guests to provide high level of customer service
o Participate in a meet and greet pre-session as well as a post-ride guest follow up session
o Foster a strong culture of health & safety; work with Human Resources and Safety to ensure all WorkSafeBC and Technical Safety BC requirements are met
o Adhere to the program procedures and protocols
o Upon the request and in agreement with the WSL program coordinator, participate in other activities as may be required

Position Requirements
Education/Experience
• Minimum 4 years’ experience in coaching pilots in the sport of bobsleigh, and/or participation as a pilot in the sport of bobsleigh at an international level required
• Diploma, certificate or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience required
• Satisfactory vulnerable sector check mandatory prior to commencement of employment
• Strong experience and technical understanding of the sport of bobsleigh required
• Meet all criteria as an experienced sliding athlete and or trained bobsleigh pilot required
• Demonstrated ability to work with high performance and developmental athletes
• Proven ability in the use of sports science and sports medicine to assist athlete development
• Technical experience in sled building, preparation and maintenance required
• Knowledge of the Long Term Athlete Development Model an asset
• Experience and established relationships with BCS, BCBSA and IBSF an asset
• Comprehension of the IF structure, requirements, and rules preferred
• Readiness to travel and work domestically/internationally, including outside normal schedule
• Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License required with current Driver’s Abstract upon hire
• Class 4 Driver’s License or Class 4 Unrestricted Driver’s License an asset
• Satisfactory vulnerable sector check mandatory prior to commencement of employment
