Reporting to the Director, Communications & Stakeholder Engagement, and working closely with the Manager, Corporate Communications, this role leads the development and execution of strategies and initiatives that foster positive, productive relationships with a wide range of partners, members and media to advance Destination Vancouver’s strategic priorities and organizational goals, building on our positive corporate reputation.
This position also plays a key role in ensuring the perspectives and needs of the industry and our members and the importance of the city’s $9.6 billion visitor economy are heard, valued, and reflected in our work. The role contributes to proactive member communications, media relations, and issues management to protect and enhance Destination Vancouver’s reputation and leads the planning and
delivery of strategic media events and special projects in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities & Qualifications
Strategic Accountabilities
Develop and implement stakeholder and member engagement plans, including objectives, key audiences, messaging, and tactics.
Lead the planning and delivery of strategic media events and special projects that showcase Vancouver’s visitor economy and strengthen relationships, collaborating with internal teams and external partners to deliver impactful outcomes.
Cultivate and maintain relationships with stakeholders and members across sectors, including tourism and hospitality businesses, all levels of government, neighbourhood associations, and industry associations.
Represent Destination Vancouver at meetings, events, consultations, and media activities, both proactively and in response to emerging opportunities or issues.
Collaborate across departments to ensure that external communications align with organizational priorities.
Monitor emerging issues and trends that could impact partners, members, and the destination, and provide strategic counsel and messaging as required.
Support media relations by responding to media requests, preparing spokespersons, and drafting statements and briefing materials.
Prepare and deliver engagement and event materials, including presentations, briefing notes, reports, newsletters, and meeting summaries.
What are we looking for?
At least five (5) years of demonstrated experience in stakeholder and/or member relations, corporate communications, government relations, media relations, or a related field. The ideal candidate will bring:
Proven ability to develop and execute engagement strategies and lead communications projects that build trust and deliver results.
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage with diverse audiences and manage complex relationships.
Demonstrated experience with media relations, including responding to enquiries, preparing spokespeople, managing sensitive or emerging issues, and planning and executing media events.
Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and deliver multiple initiatives and deadlines effectively.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience preparing briefing materials, messaging, and reports.
Understanding of Vancouver’s $9.6 billion visitor economy, key partners and stakeholders, and tourism’s role in the local and regional economy.
Demonstrated diplomacy, discretion, and sound judgment in sensitive or high-profile situations.
Curiosity, flexibility, and ability to thrive in a collaborative environment.
Fluency in English required; additional languages are an asset.
Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., communications, business, public policy, tourism) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
