Golf Club General Managers are senior executives who report to an owner or board of directors on all management functions. This includes operating procedures, practices and financial results of a golf club.

Responsibilities

  • Offer tourism information and promote local area
  • Oversee golf shop operations
  • Complete financial management tasks, such as development of a budget and managing the payroll
  • Oversee office operations
  • Oversee operation of retail and food and beverage outlets
  • Manage human resource functions, such as recruitment, training and disciplining of staff
  • Oversee turf management, maintenance and facility repair operations
  • Recruit and retain golf club members

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • A secondary school diploma is required
  • Degree or diploma in business, tourism or recreation is an asset
  • Previous management experience is required
  • Knowledge of golf and golf club operations is required
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge of turf grass management is necessary
  • Financial management skills an asset
  • Human resource management skills
  • Operations management skills
  • Sales and marketing skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of food and beverage and retail operations is an asset
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Membership in or certification from professional golf associations may be required
