A President and/or Chief Executive Officer (CEO) has the ultimate responsibility for management of a business, and may report to a board of directors, to an owner, or even be the owner. A President and/or CEO may work in any one of the five sectors of tourism and establishes and directs the organization towards a common vision; business goal.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, direct and control the activities of the business
  • Develop and administer policies, procedures and programs
  • Coordinate the work of regions, divisions or departments
  • Oversee financial management tasks
  • Manage human resources functions
  • Represent organization at external functions, in negotiations or when making key announcements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • University degree or college diploma in business administration, commerce or other discipline related to business is usually required
  • Previous management experience is a requirement
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Decision-making skills
  • Proven financial management capabilities
  • Proven human resource management skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of local market area and competition
