Secure your spot and be part of go2HR's first certification cohort.go2HR is proud to partner with Beata Chami, an Organizational Psychologist, Certified Coach and authorized Mental Health First Aid Instructor for this Mental Health First Aid training, through Opening Minds (Mental Health Commission of Canada. The Mental Health Commission of Canada reports that one in every five Canadians experiences a mental health challenge within a given year. While we often know a lot about physical illness, there tends to be less knowledge about mental health or substance use issues. This lack of understanding leads to fear and negative attitudes towards individuals, and it prevents people from seeking help for themselves and from providing appropriate support to people around them.
Course Objectives
The Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) certification focuses on increasing mental health awareness, understanding stigma, diagnostic labelling and barriers to helping, and learning how to apply effective communication techniques. Participants will learn the skills needed to support someone who may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health or substance use crisis. Course participants will learn how to:
- Recognize signs that a person may be experiencing a decline in their mental well-being or a mental health or substance use crisis
- Have conversations that encourage a person to:
- Talk about declines in their mental well-being
- Discuss professional and other supports that could help with recovery to improve mental well-being
- Reach out to access these supports
- Assist in a mental health or substance use crisis
- Use MHFA actions to support one’s own mental well-being
Following the training, participants must complete a 25-question multiple-choice quiz. (There are three opportunities to complete the quiz within a seven-day time frame.) Upon successful completion, Mental Health First Aid certification will be granted.
