Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment Tool – Banquets
This Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment (HIRA) tool is tailored for banquet staff in the overnight accommodation and hospitality sector. It identifies common tasks such as setting up event spaces, serving food and drinks, operating A/V equipment, and restocking supplies. Hazards assessed include musculoskeletal injuries (MSIs), slips and falls, cuts, burns, chemical exposure, and working alone. The tool guides employers through rating risk before and after controls, and includes practical control measures. Employers are encouraged to adapt the tool to their site-specific needs and follow the Guidance Document – Assessing Risk for HIRA Tools for accurate risk evaluations and compliance with WorkSafeBC safety requirements.
