Job Description
Are you passionate about archives, community history, and making stories more accessible to the public? The Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre (RMDC) is hiring an Archival Research Coordinator to help care for, catalogue, and share our extensive archival collections. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with digitization, research, and public outreach during a transformative period at the museum.
The RMDC preserves and dynamically presents the history and culture of Rossland and its surrounding areas. With a focus on mining and skiing history, the museum features indoor and outdoor exhibits, an extensive community archive, a visitor information centre, and a wide range of educational programs and special events.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
Archival Management & Digitization
• Digitize, catalogue, and maintain accurate records for archival materials (e.g. photos, slides, documents)
• Update archival organization systems, finding aids, and fonds descriptions
• Implement preservation and storage recommendations from prior assessments
• Coordinate and process incoming archival donations
• Assist with volunteer orientation and task coordination related to archival work
Public Research & Outreach
• Respond to internal and public research requests related to exhibitions, programs, or historical topics
• Manage the public research room and ensure access to key materials (e.g. cemetery and building records)
• Help plan and deliver archival workshops and outreach initiatives
• Support community engagement through inclusive storytelling and research assistance
Digital & Promotional Support
• Update the website and manage digital sharing of archival content
• Create blog, social media, and newsletter content that showcases archives and current projects
Museum Operations & Visitor Services
• Support daily museum operations, including admissions, upkeep, and customer service
• Assist with major events and participate in all-staff community programs

Who We’re Looking for:
• A recent graduate in archival studies, library science, history, museum studies, or a related field
• Strong English verbal and written communication skills, with excellent research and organizational abilities
• Experience with digitization, data entry, and archival handling; familiarity with the Rules for Archival Description
• Confident working independently and collaboratively, with strong time management and problem-solving skills
• Comfortable supporting public inquiries, outreach activities, and inclusive community storytelling
• Proficient in digital tools such as Google Workspace; experience with PastPerfect and content creation is an asset
• Knowledge of Rossland or BC history is a strong asset
• Additional language skills (particularly French), First Aid certification, and RCMP Security Clearance are considered assets
This position is funding-dependent and will require candidates to meet Young Canada Works at Building Careers in Heritage eligibility criteria.
