Job Description

Are you passionate about education, community programming, and helping museums connect with diverse audiences? The Rossland Museum & Discovery Centre (RMDC) is hiring a Community Engagement Coordinator to support the development and delivery of public programs, seasonal events, and outreach initiatives. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic cultural institution working to make history, science, and heritage more accessible and inclusive.

The RMDC preserves and dynamically presents the history and culture of Rossland and its surrounding areas. With a focus on mining and skiing history, the museum features indoor and outdoor exhibits, an extensive community archive, a visitor information centre, and a wide range of educational programs and special events.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Program & Event Development
• Plan, coordinate, and deliver inclusive public and educational programs for all ages and abilities
• Lead seasonal events, school tours, youth camps, and environmental education initiatives
• Develop and maintain educational materials and outreach kits in collaboration with staff and partners

Community Engagement & Partnerships
• Collaborate with local organizations to build responsive programming and support sustainability efforts
• Assist with private bookings such as birthday parties, guided tours, and rentals
• Contribute to volunteer and seasonal staff mentorship, including informal supervision and check-ins

Promotion & Public Outreach
• Support marketing and communications related to programming, including social media content
• Create engaging, inclusive materials that promote community involvement and program participation
• Participate in program evaluation and contribute ideas for future development

Museum & Visitor Services
• Perform front-of-house tasks including admissions, orientation, and gift shop sales
• Ensure a clean, welcoming public space and assist with day-to-day operations
• Participate in major events and provide support across museum departments as needed

Who We’re Looking for:
• A recent graduate in education, general sciences, history, geology, museum studies, drama, or a related field
• Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
• Strong organizational and planning abilities with experience in program delivery
• Experience working with families, children, and audiences of all ages and abilities
• Confident public speaker with a background in group management and facilitation
• Skilled in conflict resolution and problem-solving
• Strong computer skills, including experience with Google Workspace, Squarespace, and file management
• Interest in Rossland’s history, culture, and community engagement
• Additional language skills (particularly French) and First Aid certification are considered assets

This position is funding-dependent and will require candidates to meet Young Canada Works at Building Careers in Heritage eligibility criteria.
